Here are a few tips if you are thinking about growing your marketing team, as we enter a new financial year:

1.      Consider what your team currently looks like

Marketing is multi-faceted and requires a diverse range of skills. If you have a traditional marketer in place, is it time to bring in a digital specialist who can elevate your digital footprint? You may have a digital marketing manager in the post but now you need to really look at the niche skill sets across social media, paid media, email, communications, PR or content.

2.      Get the culture fit spot on

Marketing requires collaboration, you want to build a team of people who work well together, who bring out the best in each other and bring different ideas. You want to hire people who challenge you and make you better.

3.      If you are an in-house brand

Consider what skills you have internally and what you might need to outsource to specialist agencies.

4.      If you are an agency

Is your team so busy working on your client projects that it is time to bring in your own in-house marketer to really focus on your brand, while the team delivers? We help a range of agencies recruit their first internal marketer.

5.      Consider budgets and salaries

Salaries are on the up. What would have once been a competitive salary, may not get you the level of experience that you are hoping for. Look at budgets across the business and see where the extra may come from if needed. If you can’t be fully competitive on salary, what else can you offer, what does your overall benefits package look like? Have a look at our 2023 Salary Survey.

It can be tricky when it comes to planning out your recruitment, but it is also super exciting!

If you know that you need to bring in more marketing talent, but you don’t really know what that should look like (or where to find them), please get in touch.

Here are just a few things we can help with:

  • Work with you to carve out the roles you need
  • Advising on realistic salaries and market averages
  • Helping shape a benefits package: There are so many things you can do now that go a long way (and they don’t all cost money - let’s get creative!)
  • Advising on interview processes and time frames
  • We can also then help you find these people!

We would love to speak to you soon - Michelle, Jessie, Jack, Keelan, Bec and Thea
